When I asked Rev. Charles Sherrod if the Albany Movement was a turning point in the Civil Rights Movement this was his reply. "I think the Albany Movement was very important because it was the first place that a mass movement of the total community became active and went to jail in the thousands. All over southwest Georgia was activated in 10-15 counties just because one county, Dougherty County, which Albany, Georgia is in became active. All the other counties for years and years and years and even until now are still active in various activities to improve life of black and white people, especially the poor people."

Thoughts to Ponder
What was the Albany Movement?
What was the catalyst that propelled and held together the non-violent movement?
Describe a time when you felt as though you have given it all, but it wasn't enough. How does it connect to what happened with the Albany Movement?
